New video by Awkward featuring Douchebaggalo…

August 13th, 2008 escape76

If I said you’d find this shit to be awkward, or said anyone’s names were awkward, I’d be making stupid puns. But to say that Douchebaggalo’s name isn’t ridiculous would be a fucking lie. That said, he’s our homeboy and he just did a song and video with Awkward. This will be on the upcoming Awkward and the Granprize album. (I think that title is misspelled on accident, but fuck it, that’s how it was posted on the web.) These guys are clearly more interested in making cool shit than spelling anything correctly, so let’s just run this shit…

New treat: Rhymefest video for “Stolen”…

August 12th, 2008 escape76

Rhymefest has a new video out, titled “Stolen,” a social commentary on genocide, starvation, and war. The video was directed by our friend Konee Rok, and was shot by none other than DJ, Formula Werks artist, and all-around ladies’ man, Intel. See Rhymefest’s commentary below, and then check out the video.

Note: If you’re reading this in a feed email, please click the blog link to see the video on our website.

“For those who appreciate music with both soul and social commentary, this video will offer an intriguing look into the lives of people who suffer from genocide, starvation and war. It was very important for me to make this song after my travels to London where I had an opportunity to speak to a former child soldier from Sierra Leone. If you listen to the song, I document that conversation. I am sure you will find it as fascinating as I did. In an industry that is dominated by the replication of whatever the last club banger was, this song and video come from unadulterated inspiration provided by the trials of life. Produced by No I.D. and directed by Konee Rok, I give you ‘STOLEN’.” - Rhymefest

honorary scumbag

i was very politely (quote unquote) asked by Escape76 to make some creative contributions to the FWX site. i met Escape76 a couple years ago at a merch table he had set up one night at the Outrageously Overrated Funky Buddha Lounge. i’m not down with the $20 cover, $4 ATM fee, mandatory coat check and $7 imports. but i went cuz i’m pretty sure someone promised me i’d have the time of my life. well, i don’t think that panned out, but i did get a super-official FWX goodie bag which included a FormulaWerks tee (which we’ll now consider VintageFWX). i suspect he only passed it off to me cuz i was in the presence of the right people–he had no idea how cool i was then…

so, i couldn’t refuse the invitation, when Escape76 *asked* me to put the proverbial pen to paper since he’s has showered me with a shit-ton of FWX paraphernalia from day one. though the last few weeks before school starts back up i expect to be far less than spectacular. i’m currently living by the edge of my ergonomic computer seat, looking for deals on other people’s grown-up furniture, so i can finally toss out my dressers–that other people may see as merely white plastic storage drawers–for good. but, alas, as an archer by nature, i’ll always find a flaw (”but, the ad says oak!”, “that’s going to be about .7mm too long”, and “you sure you can’t knock off $15?”), so that i can start my hunt once again. forever the hunter, never the gatherer.

this would also explain the growing number of bikes at different stages of completion in my apartment. riding, like blogging *cough* (sorry), is one of my contemporary obsessions. you know that great idea that strikes in the middle of the night that compels you to run out and buy (or order off eBay) the complete compendium of your latest occupation so that you can prove yourself as more than just an another armchair expert. and so, continues my quest to build the perfect vintage lightweight fixed gear riding machine. and of course to maintain a semi-current, semi-amusing blog along the way, no matter how much i hate learning the frustrating intricacies of html tables and merging cells and the blinding headaches and eye strain that come with hunting down those pesky tags that need closing.

Boozing, Bleeding and Breaking shit

August 4th, 2008 kid static

What’s today’s date? I’m not sure it would be better to know. You know those weekends where you slip so deep into the debauchery pools time ceases to matter? The only real things you do know is how drunk you are and what chance you have of slipping waist deep into something pretty.

Recently I came into large amounts of free time, so to celebrate I woke up Friday morning and scummed at the beach with my roomate Denisse who also recently came into a shitload of free time. Watching the world wake up is fun as fuck. We talked shit about people for maybe 6 hours, then I had to dip out to the Solve tribute show at OhNo!Doom.

Saturday was the Chicago Fire vs. Chivas USA match down south and hella far west. We showed up at like 4:00 to tailgate and consume massive quantities of alcohol and encased meats. Keeping it real classy with MGD and Old Style, playing games where you throw bags in holes, and trying not to let the sun fuck up my already brown self, good times.
There are things I get about soccer. Okay, that’s not completely correct. There is one thing I get about American soccer: the game. Everything else completely baffles me. I don’t get the fans, the chants, the shirtless frat boys who during the week are straight-laced account executives, but on weekends become warriors for sections of fans who are only chanting because they’re getting harangued by shirtless frat boys.

Yell in my face one more time. Please do. I mean I really can’t have a good time unless I got your sweat and spit spraying me in my face. I swear I’m not going to take this bottle of Jack Daniels that I so lovingly snuck past security and sacrifice it for the mental fortitude of the stands by winging it at your head. GO FIRE FO FIRE GO FIRE *flipflipflipflipflip* DONE.

After the game we dipped over the Skylark on the near south side to say whats up to my guy Ropesack. Somewhere between the bar and the field we found to smoke in, I thought it was a good idea to climb something. On the way back down the 4 story building I chose, a light turns on, so I speed up the process. Going back over the fence, I succeeded in ripping a chunk off the top of it to the surprise and delight of onlookers.
The crew we were rolling with consisted of like 4 groups of friends smashed into one rolling, heaving mass of drunkenness. Among them were Megan and Stacy, two friends of mine from NY. I’ll start out by saying that me and glitter do not get along. Like if I was a super hero and I needed an arch enemy, his super power would have something to do with glitter. I can’t even go to strip clubs without dressing in a full body condom first. Not to shield myself from the vagina and shame, but to keep their accursed dust off of me.

These two chicks are the johnny fucking appleseeds of glitter. Not only do they always have it, they are consumed with the need to put it on everything. EVERYTHING. SO its reaching closing time at the bar, we’re chilling, I hear my name being called and turn my head directly into the path of an oncoming glitter cloud.

For the rest of the night, no matter how hard I tried, I looked like I got a facial basting from Tinkerbell. These bitches really gotta stop eating so much acid.

Pictures from the weekend.
